San Diego payrolling company launches new program to help employees offset the rising cost of their daily commute
San Diego, CA - June 12, 2008 - Innovative Employee Solutions® (IES), a nationwide provider of outsourced payroll and human resources (HR) administration services, today announced a new corporate policy in which employees will receive a monthly fuel stipend designed to help them cope with the financial burden created by rising gas prices.
The new policy stemmed in large part from management’s concern that fuel costs were beginning to create a financial strain for employees, many of whom commute long distances to work each day and have little access to public transportation. “As a business that focuses heavily on providing customer service, our corporate staff doesn’t have the option of telecommuting in order to save money on gas,” explained IES President Elizabeth Rice. “However, we have staff members who drive more than 1,000 miles per month to and from work, and feel strongly that an employee’s daily commute should not become a source of financial hardship. While we can’t lower the cost of fuel, we can provide our staff some relief by trying to offset the recent jump in prices.”
The policy, which will continue at least through the remainder of 2008, provides a monthly stipend for corporate employees based on the number of miles between their homes and IES headquarters, which are located in the Kearny Mesa area of
In addition to the new “gas money” initiative, the forward-thinking company is currently investigating other means of assisting its corporate staff in the search for new ways to handle rising fuel prices, including organizing employee carpools, and arranging nontraditional work hours for staff members who typically experience heavy traffic on their daily commute.
